BRC Fallow Deer

We experienced some true Texas Hospitality this week. When you’re granted the opportunity to visit 3 private deer ranch operations, the first thing you do is jump on a plane. And trust me this was something we didn’t want to miss out on. It proved to be a critical learning experience for us as we move into the fallow deer market and start our own operation. 

Cross Canyon Exotics was our first stop and wow did it leave us breathless. It was quite an experience driving through the front gates at the kangaroo pens and on past the whitetail, fallow deer and addax pens. We are extremely grateful that Cory took the time out of his day to take us around the property and share his knowledge. Oh and he also shared a peak at the impressive Bull Winkle, American Made and Lightning! 

Next stop – Keeper Ranch. This was kind of a fangirl moment for me as we have watched this ranch on “Deer and Wildlife Stories” on the outdoor channel several times. Bryant showed us around the property answering all of our questions. He was such a fantastic source of information that we have been able to learn from and adapt to our fallow deer operation. Hands down, my favorite part of this ranch tour was the bottle baby fawn pen. They were so sweet and ornery. I can’t wait for our first round of fawns to start dropping. Now I can’t forget to mention the show stoppers at Keeper Ranch: Avenger, Blades, and Snickers was definitely Brendan’s favorite part of this ranch. 

Our final stop was 4T Fallow. Huge shout out to Beau!!  He showed us his herd even though they are currently being kept at a friend’s place due to a spring tornado that ripped through his property. Can you imagine wrangling a deer herd back into pens after a tornado? But he had them back together in no time. Beau made a point to talk in depth about his working facility even offering suggestions on equipment we should look into. Oh and I can’t forget to mention the 4T Fallow monster bucks: Houdini and Extra. We are looking forward to our Extra doe that will be picked up after the first of the year. 

One trip to Texas!! In just one trip to Texas we were able to view some of the top breeder bucks in the Fallow Deer Industry. Amazing Genetics! Organized Business Operations! Friendly people offering true Texas hospitality! What a fantastic trip.
